Traffic Lite Privacy Policy

Traffic Lite is a Chrome Extension and Web Application that integrates with Google Classroom. It allows schools and teachers to display an AI-usage policy indicator (e.g., Green / Yellow / Red / Blue) directly on Google Classroom posts such as Assignments, Quiz Assignments, Questions, and Materials.
The extension helps schools communicate AI-usage expectations consistently within Google Classroom.
Traffic Lite does not collect student submissions, student communications, or the contents of assignments.

Account & Classroom context (PII)
When a teacher signs in with Google, we may collect limited account and classroom information necessary to operate the service, including:
Google account identifier
Basic profile fields (name and/or email)
Google Classroom course IDs
User role (teacher)
Classroom metadata
To support the AI-policy widget, the system may store limited metadata such as:
Classroom course ID
Google Classroom post ID
AI-usage policy color selected by the teacher
Timestamp of the selection
This data is used only to display the correct policy indicator on Classroom posts.
Local settings
Traffic Lite may store lightweight interface preferences (for example, the last class viewed) using Chrome extension storage.

Traffic Lite does not collect:
Passwords
Payment or financial data
Student submissions or assignment content
Personal communications
Web browsing history
Precise location data
Health or biometric information

Traffic Lite uses Chrome’s extension storage to save basic preferences and session state so the experience persists between sessions.
We do not store Google account passwords or OAuth refresh tokens in local storage.

We use collected data only to:
Authenticate users via Google
Identify the user’s Google Classroom courses
Display AI-usage policy indicators on Classroom posts
Maintain basic user interface preferences
Traffic Lite does not analyze student work or monitor student activity.

We do not sell personal data and do not share data with advertisers.
Data may be shared only with:
Google (Authentication & Classroom APIs)
To allow sign-in and access to Classroom data with user consent.
Our hosting/service providers
For example:
Railway (backend hosting)
Other infrastructure providers required to operate the service
These providers only process data on our behalf to operate and secure the service.

If you connect Google Classroom, we use Google user data only to provide core functionality.
We do not use Google data for advertising, profiling, or marketing.
Traffic Lite’s use and transfer of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.

Traffic Lite is intended for use by schools and educators.
The extension operates under the direction of a teacher or school administrator and functions as a tool within Google Classroom.
Traffic Lite does not independently collect personal information from children outside of school authorization.
Schools may request deletion of associated data at any time.

Traffic Lite is designed for use by schools and educators and operates as a school-authorized educational tool.
FERPA (Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act)
Under the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), schools may share limited student information with service providers that perform institutional services on their behalf.
Traffic Lite functions as a school service provider and processes limited classroom metadata solely to provide the functionality of the service. Traffic Lite:
Uses data only to operate the Traffic Lite service within Google Classroom
Does not sell or use student information for advertising or marketing
Does not access or analyze student submissions or personal communications
Allows schools to request deletion of associated data at any time
Schools remain the controller of education records, and Traffic Lite acts only as a processor of data necessary to provide the service.
COPPA (Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act)Traffic Lite may be used in classrooms that include students under the age of 13.
Under the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA), schools may provide consent on behalf of parents for educational technology services used for school purposes.
Traffic Lite:
Collects only limited information necessary to operate the service
Does not collect personal information from children for commercial purposes
Does not display advertising
Does not build behavioral profiles of students
Traffic Lite relies on school authorization and teacher direction for use in classrooms where students may be under the age of 13.

AI-policy selections and associated classroom metadata are retained as long as the teacher’s account is active or until deletion is requested.
Local settings are stored on the user’s device and can be removed by:
Uninstalling the extension, or
Clearing Chrome extension storage.

Data is encrypted in transit using industry-standard HTTPS protocols.
We apply administrative, technical, and physical safeguards appropriate for an education technology service.
However, no method of transmission or storage is 100% secure.
Traffic Lite does not use user data to train advertising systems or general-purpose AI models.

Legitimate interests in providing an educational service
Contractual obligations with schools or teachers
Compliance with applicable legal requirements
