What Traffic Lite does
Traffic Lite is a Chrome extension that syncs with Google Classroom and lets students share a quick traffic-light check-in (green / yellow / red) to give teachers a real-time data snapshot of the class's responses.
Data we collect
Account & Classroom context (PII): Google account identifier and basic profile fields (e.g., name and/or email), Classroom course ID, and role (teacher/student).
User activity: The student’s selected status (green / yellow / red) and timestamp.
Local settings: Lightweight UI preferences (e.g., last class viewed), stored via chrome.storage.
We do NOT collect: passwords, payment/financial data, personal communications, precise location, web history, or health information.
Cookies & local storage
Traffic Lite uses Chrome’s extension storage to save basic preferences and state so the experience persists between sessions. We do not store Google account passwords or OAuth refresh tokens in local storage.
How we use data
To sign users in with Google and associate usage with the correct Google Classroom.
To display real-time class snapshots and historical counts to teachers.
To maintain basic UI preferences.
Data sharing (all parties)
We do not sell personal data and do not share data with advertisers. We share data only with:
Google (Authentication & Classroom APIs): to sign users in and to access Classroom resources under user consent.
Our hosting/service providers (e.g., Railway for backend hosting) solely to operate, secure, and support the service under data-processing agreements.
Google services & “Limited Use”
If you connect Google Classroom, we use your Google data only to provide core functionality. We do not use it for advertising or human-readable profiling, and we do not transfer it except to service providers acting on our behalf. Traffic Lite’s use and transfer of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
Children, students, and school use
Traffic Lite is used under the direction of schools/teachers for educational purposes. We act as a service provider to the school. We do not knowingly collect data from children outside of school authorization. Schools may request deletion at any time.
Data retention & deletion
Check-ins are retained while the teacher’s account is active or until the school/teacher requests deletion.
Local settings live on the device and can be cleared by removing the extension or clearing Chrome storage.

Security
Data is encrypted in transit. We apply administrative, technical, and physical safeguards appropriate for an education tool. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, and we continually improve our protections. We do not use your data to train advertising or general-purpose AI models.
Legal basis (for GDPR/UK users)
We process data to provide the service under legitimate interests in educational delivery and/or under contract with the school or teacher authorizing use, and to comply with legal obligations.
Your choices & rights
Teachers may request export or deletion of data via dtranchina25@gmail.com. Users may remove the extension at any time.
